Welcome! Since you are new to my site, would you like to subscribe to my RSS feeds? That way you'll never miss any of my interesting articles. Thanks for visiting!
Yes. I also could not believe it when I first heard it. I thought this was some kind of a joke or some kind of virus or spyware! But I was really amazed…this was a great 3D game known as .kkreiger, and believe it or not, the size of the game was just 96 KB! Here are some snapshots of the beta release!

The minimum requirements of this 96 KB, 3D game are:
- A 1.5GHz Pentium III / athlon or faster.
- 512MB of RAM
- a GeForce4Ti (or higher) or ATI Radeon8500 (or higher) graphics card supporting pixel shaders 1.3, preferably with 128MB or more of VRAM.
- Sound hardware
- DirectX 9.0b
I hope this cutting edge technology will certainly bring some real big changes in the gaming world! There are some bugs in this game, but hey, this is just the beta version! You can download this game from here. I could have just uploaded the zipped file so that you could immediately download this wonderful game from this post, but I believe we should give credits to the developer (theprodukkt) by at least visiting their wonderful site! Simply extract the Zip file. There will be a small 96 KB executable file. Run it. I know it takes some time for the game to load, but you’ll then be one of the people who’ve seen this miracle of technology!
ADDED ON May 29, 2008:
I know .kkreiger is old, that is, last updated in August 2006. But I blogged this just to create more awareness among the people regarding this concept in which all the textures are procedurally generated in your computer! and if successfully implemented, I believe, this concept can bring some real big changes in the whole gaming technology. What do you say?
Well, regarding the ongoing development, you might have also heard about Debris by Farbrausch.
This was release by “.farbrausch” on April 2007, bringing you an animated city with lots of effects, and again, this 7:18 minutes of demo is just 180 kb!…that’s even smaller than an average jpg photo!
If you don’t have the minimum requirements to run this demo, you can check the demo video from Youtube as well.
The most interesting thing is, now you can also use this same procedural texture technology for FREE! . Werkkzeug3 TE is the first tool to bring this procedural texture from the coders to the designers. Download your free copy of .Werkkzeug3 TE today and give it a try!

This article fails to mention the name of the game and its creators…
This game is brilliant!
Wow! I really thought this was a joke! Great..simply great!
The reason the game is so small is because the textures are “procedural” rather than bitmaps. This means the game has a small routine that generates the textures on the fly, saving space. This does mean however that if you want real-world textures or user generated ones, the file size would get huge very quickly.
It’s a great game, but again very limited in what it’s capable of - I don’t see it replacing the next F.E.A.R. or Doom titles just yet. =)
Why is this game taking so much time to load?
I’m afraid this is old news, I first saw this some 4 years ago. This could be an updated version though.
Very impressive though.
The long load time is due to everything being procedurally generated (textures, models, animations etc) as the game is loading.

Yes. The game was last updated on August 2006, but anyway, many people didn’t know such game exist, and this was just an informative article to let everybody know regarding this cutting-edge technology.
This has been around in some form as far back as 2004.
At least that’s when I heard about it.
Way too old to blog about IMO.
Yes Justin. The last update was made on Aug 2006, but I found out many people didn’t know about this, hence blogged regarding this. This is the “must know” article for everybody who loves game and technology, and even till now, I realized there were so many people who didn’t know regarding this!
It’s a shame, but the talented people in the demo scene have really gone unnoticed by the general public. Yes, this is ‘old news’ indeed, but I’m glad that people are recognizing it now as well. It definitely reminds me of the 90’s just before the internet took off with demo-scene groups such as Future Crew. It’s people like this that push the boundaries of current technologies and are definitely true ‘hackers’ in the purest sense of the word. It seems that .theprodukkt are definitely keeping the scene alive and I would love to see more from them.
96kb? how many levels?
My Mariokart 64 Rom is 6mb.
Na, this time I dont feel outdated at least. First time I was playing Krieger Beta like 3-4 years ago. Great thing, just old news.
@Paul Godden: Thanks for the technikal details man! The only thing is weird in your comment, is that :”This does mean however that if you want real-world textures or user generated ones, the file size would get huge very quickly.” Okay, it’s true, but thats not the case
They solved it othervise, and proved that 3d FPS games -with dynamic ligths etc. - shouldn’t be 25 gb overprotected monsters…
Great game for it’s size…
This is soooooo old, man.
KKrieger was released years ago.
But you are right it is quite impressive. I don’t agree on “will bring innovations to the game industry”, since it is old and bound to certain problems.
If it would be easy or straight-forward we would see way more games produced like this.
Amended on the article regarding some recent developments by theprodukkt! I hope you’ll like it. Also I’m appreciating your comments and feedbacks. Thanks for that!
Are you saying we can make the game and demo like that from the Werkkzeug3 TE tool?

Mind blowing ……
Will surely check it out

It takes a long time to load because it has to go through every instruction on how to recreate all the graphics and then store it in memory, and afterwards, it should take a lot of memory.
The article mentions it is cutting-edge technology, but really, it isn’t, it’s just using simple optimization tricks that have been around for a long time. As will all optimization, if you optimize for space, then speed is sacrificed (long load times.) If you optimize for speed, than space is sacrificed (retail computer games.) The latter is preferable for a game you buy from the store, thus, as others have already stated, this will not replace current game making techniques. Not to mention, it takes a lot of work and effort in order to get all the instructions just right for it to create all these graphics procedurally.
anybody here know of a good site to find more info on Free Old Pc Games? I’ve got this site bookmarked and im gonna keep checking it out, but i still would like to find a site that covers Free Old Pc Games a little more thoroughly..thanks

welll… actually its 97 kb
This game when first released on April 2004 was only 95 KB, but later on with the updates, the game in fact got bigger…LOL
This is not the way of the future this is the way of the past.
old games had tighter constraints and things had to be more efficient.
games these days are getting more and more bloated and less efficient - why? because they can be
why spend that extra time optimizing when you don’t have to? If the need comes up for small, tight, efficient programs these techniques will come back but sorry to say, this is not the way of the future, this is the way of the past! 64k demo days are over soz…
Hmm…you’re right on that Atrix. However, the main question is, are all the games that efficient? Definitely tight, efficient programs were the ways of past, but we would always in the future enjoy and appreciate games which are more efficient, more responsive with less lags, detail-oriented, and uses less disk space
Wow. The screenshots really look good. 96 KB sounds too good to be true, but then anything is possible these days. Let’s hope the game is also good.
Old game but futuristic thats awesome article
Wow!!! Good job. Could I take some of yours triks to build my own site?2
Hi, all. Nice site…I really like your site ! Good job man.
The site is very professional! Keep up the good work! Oh yes, one extra comment - maybe you could add more pictures too! So, good luck to your team!
You are doing a wonderful job! Keep up the good work!!!!
