You must have heard about all the controversies of Coke. Well, I am not that huge soda drinker, but I do enjoy a diet soda, but after researching on the “usefulness” of Coke, I definitely am giving it a second thought.

Some facts about Coke:

  • In many states in the United States, the highway patrol carries about two gallons of coke in the truck to remove blood from the highway if any accidents occur. (It does make sense as phosphoric acid can dissolve grease and rust and the active ingredient of Coke is the phosphoric acid; it’s pH is 2.8. This phosphoric acid also slowly leaches calcium from bones, and unproven, but may be a major contributor to the increasein osteoporosis.)
  • I’ve long heard regarding this, that to clean a toilet, simply pour a can of Coke into the toilet bowl and then flush! Your toilet will be cleaner than you used Harpic!

  • You can also use Coke to clean corrodes from the car battery terminals. Simply put a can of Coke over the terminal, and it bubbles away the corrision.
  • You can even remove the grease from clothes using Coca-Cola! Just empty a can of Coke into the load of greasy clothes and add detergent and clean it and all the grease will be gone! The Coca-Cola helps to loosen grease stains (Reference from www.howtocleananything.com)
  • You can also use the Coke to loosen a rusted bolt just by putting small amount of coke in the rusted bolt.
  • One very interesting fact that I found out was “Hazardous Material” place cards reserved for ‘Highly Corrosive Materials’ must be used by the commercial trucks carrying coke! (Reference from Truth or Fiction)
  • And lastly, rumor has it that the distributors of Coca-Cola have been using it to clean the engines of their truck for more than 20 years!

Editor’s Note:  Many references even claimed that Coke could dissolve a nail in four days! But I found it not to be true after practically experimenting the same with Coke, Pepsi, and Diet Coke as well. Nevertheless, the fact still remains that what we’ve been drinking for so many years as “Refreshment Drinks” could have been used in so many ways! (And I guess I’ll not be “using” Coke at least as a refreshment drink!)
